Digitalisation is changing solid waste management. Mobile apps and online services make it easier for residents to manage their waste and to reduce, reuse and recycle, while digital tools make data collection, analysis and monitoring more efficient and cost-effective for the environmental services sector.
Our ICT-based technology provides paperless, real-time monitoring of door-to-door waste collection and street cleaning, with remote access and live data analysis. Our sanctioned projects run successfully in Urban Local Bodies — Municipal Corporations, Municipalities, Nagar Panchayats and Notified Area Authorities.
Technologies for garbage-free cities
We use ICT to transform waste management in support of Swachh Bharat Mission. The key technologies we deploy are:
- Smart waste bins
- AI-based object recognition sorts recyclables into separate compartments, and sensors notify the right authority when a bin is full.
- QR-based waste collection
- Analytics shows exactly which wards and zones need collection, and source segregation by citizens is monitored in real time.
- AI-based monitoring of collection vehicles
- Route optimisation and disposal-site allocation make collection more efficient and ensure contractors unload waste only at the right sites.
- Waste-level sensors
- Measuring the fill level of each bin lets us predict when it will be full and avoid unnecessary trips to the landfill.
- Automated waste collection system
- Door-to-door, block, community-bin and kerbside collection and transport, with less manual handling.
- GPS devices and sensors on waste trucks
- Trucks are tracked to optimise collection and to make sure waste reaches the designated sites.
- Sensor-based sorting
- Sensors identify waste materials by their visible, infrared or ultraviolet spectral properties.
- Analytics-based dumpsite management
- The waste deposited at each dumpsite — including the amount of wet and dry material — is measured accurately.
- Integrated asset management
- All waste infrastructure assets, with their data, processes, information systems and governance, are managed in one place.
- Workforce and resource management
- Planning, forecasting, scheduling, shift management and mobile apps help teams carry out tasks efficiently.
- City performance management
- Digital technology and big-data analytics monitor city sub-systems for better performance and proactive crisis management.
- Integrated monitoring
- Waste collection, source segregation, dumpsite management, street sweeping and liquid-waste clean-up are monitored together.
- Process automation
